NHS White Paper: 'Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS'
The Secretary of State for Health published a new NHS White Paper on 12th July 2010 setting out the coalition Government's vision for the NHS.
'Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS' sets out proposals to create a patient-centred NHS, which focuses on improving their experience and health outcomes and that empowers professionals to take control of services.
The proposals include strengthening the patient's voice through the introduction of a new consumer champion HealthWatch. There is also a proposal for Local Involvement Networks (LINks) to become the local HealthWatch - ensuring that in every area there continues to be a champion for patients.

In April this year the LINk sent a questionnaire to it's members to ensure that the issues the LINk are looking at remain relevant to the health and social care needs of the people of Gateshead.
The LINk Steering Group met in May and as a result of this questionnaire was able to agree on the four working groups for the year ahead.
The four working groups are:
Transition into Adult Services (incorporating Carers and Residential Care Issues)
